Hughes is a worthy contender to replace Moyes, insists Redknapp

first_imgHarry Redknapp has insisted that Mark Hughes is a worthy contender to replace David Moyes at Everton.Hughes, sacked as QPR boss last year after a dismal run of results, has been touted as a possible successor to the Manchester United-bound Moyes.Joey Barton, who was frozen out by him at Loftus Road  has warned that Everton appointing Hughes would be “suicide”.But Redknapp, who took over from Hughes at relegated Rangers, believes the Welshman deserves to be considered. He said: “Why not? Mark is a good manager, so why shouldn’t he be linked with the job?“He had a little spell at Everton [as a player] although he’s a Man United man really. Good luck to him. If that’s what he wants I wish him well.”See also:Everton appointing Mark Hughes would be ‘suicide’ warns BartonRedknapp backs Bircham for Millwall 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 Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Oscar again linked with move and speculation over Austin continues

first_imgA round-up of the latest transfer speculation involving Chelsea and QPR…Comments by Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri have led to more speculation that Oscar could join the Italian club.Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has insisted the 23-year-old, who signed a five-year contract last November, will not be leaving. And Kia Joorabchian, who acts as an adviser to Oscar, last week told the Italian media there was no prospect of the player joining Juve despite reports he could move in exchange for former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba. But the Daily Mirror claim Allegri is stepping up his apparent bid to sign Oscar. It comes after Allegri was quoted as saying: “I would like a footballing inventor – they are never boring. like Real Madrid’s Isco and Brazil’s Oscar.“The addition of a number 10 to the mix is both a tactical desire and a desire to add ego to my team.”There has been speculation about Oscar’s future despite his long-term contractSky Sports say Chelsea are favourites to sign Stoke goalkeeper Asmir Begovic. And Baba Rahman’s agent Sascha Empacher has denied reports that the Augsburg left-back has misgivings about a potential move to Chelsea, who are reported to be interested in him.It was suggested that the Ghana international, 20, has concerns because previous big-money signings have not been given regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.“No, that’s not true. It is a classic example of bad investigative journalism,” Empacher told German media.Meanwhile, West Brom want to sign Charlie Austin, the Birmingham Mail reports.QPR have not received any offers or enquiries for the striker despite a host of reports of both interest and bids.Albion boss Tony Pulis is said to be interested in Austin and determined to push through a deal to sign R’s winger Matty Phillips.Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Four years ago, Canada beat the U.S. in Sochi 3-2, and in this game, the Americans had to overcome a fierce Canadian power play with less than 2 minutes to go in overtime to win. [SB Nation]Russia, not so muchRussia has never won a gold medal in Olympic ice hockey. Naturally, the Soviet Union was an international ice hockey juggernaut, but the Russian Federation hasn’t had their luck, winning only a silver and a bronze over the past six games. Moreover, while the Russians at this games are playing great, they aren’t actually playing for Russia, more just the Olympics in general. [FiveThirtyEight]Try out our interactive, Which World Cup Team Should You Root For?U.S.A. not so much eitherThis is poised to be a rather disappointing games for the United States, with the Americans (as of Tuesday) coming in 10.8 fewer medals than we’d expect at this point given the team’s historical performance in the winter games. Norway is sucking up all the gold in the room, with 9.3 medals above expectations. [FiveThirtyEight]Louisville actually didn’t win that time it turns outThe Louisville men’s basketball program’s 2013 national championship — and it’s 2012 appearance in the Final Four — will be wiped from the books, as the team was ordered by the NCAA to vacate the wins in light of penalties levied against the school. The allegations that lead to the penalties include a report that “a former Louisville staff member arranged for striptease dances and sex acts for players and recruits.” [ESPN]Try out our brand new super fun quiz, Which Winter Olympic Sport Is Best For You? I got ski jumping! The mom did it!Cross-country skier Kikkan Randall, the only mom on the U.S. Olympic Team, gave birth since her last appearance at the games in Sochi but still managed to not only return to the Olympics but win gold as part of the women’s team sprint race with Jessie Diggins. It’s the first time an American woman won a medal in cross-country skiing, and Randall’s trip back to competition can tell us lots about work-life balance. [Anchorage Daily News, FiveThirtyEight]U.S. curling makes the finalA 5-3 upset over defending world champion Canada puts the United States in the final against curling juggernaut Sweden.
