2 Lindeners charged for narco possession

first_imgTwo alleged gang members of the mining town of Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), were hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Monday after being arrested during a sting operation carried out by the Tactical Crime Unit in the community.Twenty-year-old Adrian Webster called “Dutchie” of Lot 326 Canvas City, Wismar, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice), and Uriel Lewis, 28, of Lot 464 South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus and both pleaded not guilty to a charge of narcotics possession.The first charge stated that on September 12, 2019, at Canvas City, Linden, Region 10, Webster had two grams of cannabis in his possession. The second charge alleged that on September 12, 2019, at South Amelia’s Ward, Linden, Lewis had three grams of cannabis in his possession.According to Police Prosecutor Quinn Harris, on the day in question Police ranks from the McKenzie Police Station were on mobile patrol when they received information and proceeded to South Amelia’s Ward.The prosecution’s case stated that when the ranks arrived, they met the defendants and conducted a search. During the search, a ziplock transparent bag containing leaves, stems and seeds was found in Webster’s left side pocket.Lewis was found with two ziplock transparent bags, in his front left pocket that contained seeds, stems and leaves.Both men were subsequently arrested and taken to the McKenzie Police Station, where the substance was weighed in their presence. The prosecutor further told the court that Webster told the arresting ranks that “Oh, officer is a lil thing help me nah”, while Lewis stated that “Officer this weed is me own”.The Magistrate, after listening to the facts, fined Webster $10,000 and Lewis $12,000.They were also ordered to seek counselling and were further instructed to perform community service at the McKenzie Police Station.last_img
