Exclusive – Top four is the ‘Holy Grail’ for Man United this season, claims ex-Red Devil

first_imgFormer Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has told the Red Devils to forget about the Premier League title, claiming a top four finish is their “Holy Grail” this season.Following United’s 3-0 victory over fierce rivals Liverpool, club captain Wayne Rooney insisted the 20-time champions can challenge Chelsea and Manchester City for the top-flight crown. That defeat of their old rivals extended the team’s winning streak to six straight games and closed the gap on second-place City to just five points. However, Bosnich believes title 21 could be out of their reach this term, insisting that securing their place in the Champions League should be their top priority. The Australian told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “You never rule anything out in football, but I don’t think they can [win the title], no.“Top four is the Holy Grail for them this season.“We know how much it has cost the club not being in the Champions League this year, so to seal qualification again is the most important thing.“But you never say never, and if Man City and Chelsea go further in the Champions League that will be a plus for Man United.“Last year it was Liverpool, they had no Champions League football, no midweek football, and they came really close to winning the title, so as long as United stay within touching distance of the top two, you never know what might happen.”last_img
