Kolkata: Two persons were killed and three others been injured, one of them critically, when a car hit a road side tree.The incident took place on the Purulia-Borakar State Highway in the wee hours of Wednesday.The deceased have been identified as Manoj Roy (47) and Vinod Singh (43), who were going to Purulia from the city. According to the police, the victims were Kolkata-based businessmen.The injured persons are Shiv Kumar Singh, Mukesh Singh and Manas Singh. They were taken to a local hospital. The health condition of Shiv Kumar is stated Also Read – Rain batters Kolkata, cripples normal lifeto be critical.According to a preliminary investigation, the police came to know that he was driving the vehicle at the time of the accident.Police said the victims started their journey in a Maruti Van on Tuesday night.They were crossing Mokatala area under Nitudia police station when the driver lost control over the vehicle and it rammed into a road side tree. Circumstantial evidences suggest that the vehicle was at a high speed at the time of the accident. They rushed to the spot and found the passengers trapped inside the car, a portion of which was badly damaged in the accident. They rescued the injured victims and took them to a nearby hospital.The doctors at the hospital pronounced two of them brought dead, while the other three have been undergoing treatment.The incident caused traffic jam in the area for sometime in the morning.After being informed, police reached the spot and started a probe in this regard. They are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the accident. According to a preliminary investigation, police suspect that the accident might have occurred due over speeding.They also said the driver lost control over the vehicle while taking a sharp bend.The investigating officers are not ruling out that the driver might have fallen asleep at the time of the accident. They have collected samples from the spot of the accident.
