Couple rescues injured youth in Habra

first_imgKolkata: A middle aged couple rescued a 28-year-old youth who had been left unattended for some time after falling from a running train.The incident took place in Habra station of North 24-Parganas on late Monday evening. Some of the local people alleged that despite repeated calls, the railway police did not come to the spot.The victim had sustained serious injuries on various parts of his body and was screaming in pain. But none of the local residents or police came forward to rescue the injured youth. As a result, the victim had been lying near the railway track for a few minutes.It has been learnt that the victim, Chandan Sarkar (28), a resident of Kumda Kashipore village in Habra, was returning home from work. When the train was about to enter platform number 1 in Habra Station, Sarkar suddenly fell from the train. He was standing at the gate. The victim received critical injuries on his head and limbs. She immediately rushed to the spot and took the victim to Habra Hospital with the help of her husband.Vina Sarkar said: “None came to his rescue. They thought the victim might have died. I went up to the youth and found him alive. With the help of my husband I picked up the injured youth and put him on a van rickshaw. Some local people warned us not to intervene as we might invite trouble. The victim has been undergoing treatment at the hospital and his condition is serious.”last_img
