Kolkata: Sukhdeb Ghosh, a local committee president of Trinamool Congress at Raghunathpur in Nadia, was among the two killed in road accidents that took place at two different places in the same district on Wednesday morning.The other victim has been identified as Noor Muhammad. According to the district police, the first incident took place in Raghunathpur area under Tehatta police station in Nadia when Ghosh was returning home along National Highway 34. According to the preliminary investigation, police came to know that Ghosh was trying to cross the road when a speeding bus on its way to Krishnanagar hit him in Arshigunge area at around 4.45 am. The bus was coming from Patkebari area. Some locals found the victim lying in a pool of blood and he was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead. The bus driver and the conductor fled the spot leaving the vehicle right. Police have seized the bus and raids are being conducted to nab the bus driver. They are investigating if it was an accident or there was any foul play behind the incident. The other accident also occurred on National Highway 34 at Noapara under Dhubulia police station when Noor Muhammad was cycling along the road. A daily wage labourer, Muhammad was hit by a truck from behind. The victim died on the spot. Police later recovered the body and sent it for an autopsy. The incident happened at around 7.30 am when he was going for work. The truck driver fled the spot with the vehicle. Raids are being conducted to nab the truck driver. Eyewitnesses told police the truck was running at a high speed when it hit the victim. A probe has been initiated.
